No último sábado, as ruas em frente à Assembleia Nacional, em Seul, se encheram de luzes de light sticks e músicas de K-pop e K-rock durante um protesto que uniu ativismo político e cultura pop. Jovens fãs de grupos como SHINee, NCT, NewJeans, Big Bang, Seventeen, entre outros, compareceram a manifestação contra o presidente Yoon Suk Yeol, carregando seus light sticks e pedindo o impeachment do atual presidente após a declaração de lei marcial na Coreia do Sul.
O protesto, organizado pelo grupo cívico Candlelight Action, foi descrito como um verdadeiro festival de K-pop, com participantes dançando e cantando hits como “Whiplash”, do aespa, e “Fighting”, do subunit BooSeokSoon, do Seventeen. Algumas músicas tiveram letras adaptadas para criticar as políticas de Yoon e reforçar as demandas por sua destituição.
A ideia de trazer os light sticks surgiu ao longo da semana, durante vigílias diárias após a declaração repentina de lei marcial na terça-feira. No Twitter, o Candlelight Action convidou: “Fãs de K-pop de todo o país, tragam seus light sticks. Faremos um concerto à luz de velas para vocês.”
Os fãs destacaram que suas habilidades no fandom — como organizar filas, enfrentar longas esperas e gritar em apoio aos ídolos — foram úteis na organização do protesto. “Estamos acostumados a torcer alto e resistir ao frio por algo que amamos. Protestar não é diferente”, comentou Heo, fã do Seventeen, de 24 anos.
